Princess Mary, The Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood (1897-1965), fine and rare George V 9ct gold and tortoiseshell desk set, the hinged curved cover disclosing a light tanned leather lined interior with five divisions, mounted with a cursive capital letter 'M' surmounted by a coronet, on a leather mounted rectangular base, 25 x 30.8 x 14.4cm overall, rectangular blotter mounted with an 'M' and coronet, the back cover with an inside plaque inscribed ''Presented to Her Royal Highness Princess Mary by trained Nurses and Probationers in training of Great Britain and Ireland on the occasion nof her Marriage'', 30.6 x 26.2cm, and a rectangular inkstand with a ribbon and bellflower engraved square glass inkwell, the hinged cover with an 'M' and coronet on a rectangular base with two pen rests and a pen, on splayed bracket feet, 22.2 x 15.9cm, by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd., 112 Regent St., W., London 1921, the pen by Sampson Mordan & Co., London 1917. Provenance: Private collection of Angela Lascelles (wife of The Hon. Gerald Lascelles, First Cousin of Queen Elizabeth II) and thence by descent. Condition - Stationery box with slight scuff marks, the back and base with wear commensurate with age, blotter with slight scuff marks and hairline scratches, spine worn, back with few marks and worn edge and wallet loose, silk lining tatty, round edge with a few tears, blotting paper probably replaced, inkwell tiny chips and faults to floral cut base, stand with four circular nuts missing..
