Description:
Edward VIII, later H.R.H. The Duke of Windsor ('David' signed), typed letter to Gerald Lascelles, on headed paper for 4 Route Du Champ d'Entrainement, dated July 1957, in relation to renovation works of Fort Belvedere, Sunningdale, typed from 'Your affectionate uncle' and signed in biro 'David', along with the original envelope with royal cypher to reverse and personalised tape; two post office telegrams, one dated 25 Dec 1962 with the message 'Thank you both for your card of The Fort which brings back many pleasant memories Happy Christmas and 1963 ++ DAVID WALLIS', and the other dated Dec 1956 with message 'Happy New Year to you both Delighted with pretty Christmas Card = UNCLE DAVID', and two related items. FOOTNOTE:
Edward, Duke of Windsor, was always known in the family as 'David'. 4, Route du Champ d'Entrainement was the Paris home of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor between 1952 and 1986. After the death of Wallis Duchess of Windsor, the property was taken over by Mohamed Al-Fayed, and Al-Fayed's son Dodi visited the villa with Diana, Princess of Wales, for half an hour on the day before their deaths in 1997.
